City manager Pep Guardiola tweaked his tactical setup following the break, deploying Kevin De Bruyne into the right half-space to deliver early, pinpoint deliveries behind the opposition’s low defensive block. The tactical adjustment paid immediate dividends in the 58th minute when Haaland timed his run to perfection, towering over two central defenders to power a trademark downward header past the stranded goalkeeper.

Twelve minutes later, the 24-year-old striker doubled City’s cushion with a breathtaking display of raw physical power and technical elegance. Latching onto a line-breaking through-ball from Bernardo Silva, Haaland shrugged off contact at the edge of the eighteen-yard box before dispatching an unstoppable low drive into the bottom left corner.

“When you give Erling even a fraction of an inch inside the penalty box, he punishes you,” Guardiola commented in the post-match press conference. “His work rate without the ball and his constant physical pressure on opposing center-backs dictate the entire tempo of our attacking transitions.”

Manchester City now turn their attention to mid-week UEFA Champions League duties, where they will look to preserve their unbeaten home record under the Etihad lights.
